ARC 2413 - Building Science 1
Introduction to factors affecting thermal performance of buildings creating sustainable and comfortable designs and minimising the use of space heating and cooling.
In a group of six, we are required to do case studies for a building in Kuala Lumpur that is listed under Green Building Index (GBI) and a building in Singapore that is certified by the Green Mark System. We have chosen Malaysia's first GBI certified building, the Green Energy Office (GEO) Building and the Green Mark Platinum awarded Solaris.
These are the written reports for our case studies.
Project 1: Case Study - Identifying Innovative Passive Design Strategies
Through this project, I've had a better understanding of thermal comfort and how the site condition and climate affects thermal comfort. I have learned how to analyse the sun path and windrose to assist in analysing thermal comfort. By doing studies on the buildings, I have expanded my knowledge of passive design strategies and understood how to apply these strategies in buildings to achieve better thermal comfort.
